Making the most of smaller spaces

If you take the leap and move into a new apartment, townhouse or smaller home you need to make the most of your new space in the most efficient way possible. To help you settle into your new surroundings we thought we’d share some clever tips that might assist you in creating the home you’ve been dreaming of…

  • If your existing furniture doesn’t work, don’t be afraid to sell your wares to purchase new pieces to maximise the space. Or mix and match some old with the new.
  • Invest in smaller, more space-efficient furniture items that don’t look bulky but still meet your needs. For example a 2-seater sofa and slimline tables.
  • Purchase multi-functional furniture such as a new bed that has the capacity to store linen under the mattress or an ottoman that can be used as a small seat and double as storage for your nik naks.
  • Mount an oversized mirror on the wall as it will not only reflect the light but will give the illusion that the room is bigger.
  • Choose fabrics/rugs that have small prints or plain colours. Unified colours will visually expand a small room.
  • Leave your windows uncovered and take advantage of natural light which will open up the space.
  • Stylish accessories will complement your furniture but make sure you don’t go overboard. Stick to basic designs that are mildly coloured and easily interchangeable.
  • Need an extra bedroom every now and again? Then a sofa bed for the living room might be the go – again think multi functional!
  • If you love watching your favourite movies whilst relaxing in bed, then fix the TV on the wall to instantly add space to your bedroom without the need for the bulky entertainment unit.
  • For small courtyards or gardens, choose plants that will grow tall rather than spreading. Also add transitional pieces of furniture to provide flexibility when entertaining. Outdoor chairs than can fold down or be stacked together are a good suggestion.

Pulse would love to see how our buyers have styled and personalised their spaces. Please send any snaps to admin@pulseps.com.au and we will share a few on our Instagram & Facebook pages.
